Welcome to Make Stuff 4 Kids!

February20

I am a stay at home mom with two kids, my son J. is 7 and my daughter E. will turn 5 this week.  We live in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia, and we love to make all things crafty.

I hope to share recipes, baking tips, cake decorating ideas, sewing projects and whatever miscellaneous crafts the kids and I come up with.   Since we usually do at least two crafts a week, I have to be frugal or else most of my husband’s paycheck would go to the local craft stores!  Re-purposing everyday items is very important to me, since it cuts costs dramatically and also helps to teach the kids about the importance of recycling.

Since this week is my daughter’s birthday, I’ll be making a Princess and the Frog doll cake, and I’ll share with you the method for baking it without the pricey “skirt” cake pan, which is too short to use with a real doll anyway.  After all, what is the point of a doll cake if the birthday girl can’t play with the doll after the cake is cut?

Some other highlights I’ll be posting are:

My recipe for Vegetarian Marshmallow Fondant (yes, really!).

An overview (with printable pattern pieces) and basic construction tips for sewing a Princess Tiana gown for your own little princess!

A Little Princess (or prince!) sewing double instructions.

A tutorial and instructions for making a gumpaste frog, which will hopefully resemble (at least somewhat) Prince Naveen as a frog when it is finished.
